SECONDVOICE^® is a very low-cost, solar-charged, audio-only  PASSERBY^® device, intended to provide rich information and communication access at the lowest cost and with the least amount of training required.

 

 

SECONDVOICE allows users to record their own audio content, tag it with community-shared voice tags to put it into a suitable category, and list buddies as recipients. Messages then find their way to all the suitable recipients using PASSERBY technology. At the other side, audio messages are automatically accumulated into playlists on the basis of the content category and the recipient, and users can listen to their playlists at their leisure.

 

With just a built-in microphone, jack for an earpiece and a simple UP/DOWN/SELECT joystick as the only interface elements, SECONDVOICE is incredibly simple to use, easily customised to every language.

 

SECONDVOICE is solar-charged, with a battery able to keep it running when the sun's not shining, so it never needs electricity. It doesn't even have a power-button or a power indicator light. And at only 1"x2.5" and 10g, fully sealed against moisture and dust, SECONDVOICE can be carried anywhere, always for full-time functionality.

 

With a target manufacturing cost of US$10 in high volume, and with a cost-of-ownership of absolutely nothing, SECONDVOICE brings rich information capability at an entirely affordable cost for even those living close to, or below, the poverty line. It will bring increased revenue, improved education and better access to health information, all worth many times the cost of the device.
