Pencil has a number of products under development, of which SECONDVOICE^® will be the first to be widely available.

 

SECONDVOICE is a solar-charged, audio-only PASSERBY^® devic. With its small size (1" by 2.5"), lightweight (10g), fully sealed against moisture and dust and with no need for electricity, SECONDVOICE can be carried anywhere. With its audio interface, it can easily be customised to any language, and requires no literacy to use. And at US$10 target manufacturing price in high volume, together with a zero cost-of-use, SECONDVOICE will bring high quality communications at a cost and in a format rural communities can really take advantage of.

 

SECONDVOICE is due for release in Q4 2007, and is available for pilot programmes immediately.

 

For those in a community that already have a suitable mobile phone, Pencil offers SECONDVOICE-software. Running on suitable Java-enabled cellphones, SECONDVOICE-software recreates the SECONDVOICE features as a cellphone application. SECONDVOICE software is due for release in Q4 2007, and will be available for pilot programmes shortly.

 

 Pencil is also creating a number of other PASSERBY implementations, including a generic file-exchange application for cellphones, and can provide software implementations for use in third-party products.
